The Heart Sutra: An In-Depth Study and Contemplation

INTERMEDIATE: Most suitable for practicing Buddhists and non-Buddhists already familiar with foundational Buddhist concepts; registration is recommended to participate fully from the beginning, but walk-ins and those joining mid-course are also welcome

 

This series of classes will begin in May of 2020 (on Zoom for now due to the coronavirus).

 

We will study and contemplate the meaning of "The Heart of the Perfection of Wisdom Sutra" based on commentaries by Indian and Tibetan Buddhist masters. He Heart Sutra is often recited in all Mahayana Buddhist countries. In this class we'll look deeply into its various levels of meaning and how one goes about contemplating and meditating on its meaning.

 

This series of classes will be part of the FPMT Basic Program for those who are interested in attending regularly.

 

WHEN: Classes will be held on Saturdays (via Zoom) from 10:30 to 12:30 EST. Nov: 14th, 28th; Dec: 12th, 2020.

PARTICIPATION

 

Fully participating in the course involves reading ahead in the text, attending most sessions in person, watching any sessions you've missed on YouTube, and engaging in the meditations between class sessions. There will also be occasional homework for those participating as Basic Program students (click here for more information about FPMT's Basic Program).
