Fundraising Appeal May 2017

Dear Members, Participants and Friends of Guhyasamaja Center,

May 26 begins a sacred period according to the Tibetan lunar calendar; a time which culminates on June 9 with the anniversary of the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and passing into parinirvana.

So, I'm writing today to ask for your help for our center. Each year, we do our main, annual fundraising appeal at this time because the meritorious karma of giving is said to be greater at this time. In past years, your generous response to this annual appeal has made the difference between the center meeting its expenses for the year or failing to do so.

In looking at the center's income and expenditures for the first quarter of 2017, despite some extra offerings at the beginning of January, our income is still behind our expenses by nearly $500. If we do not make up for that trend, then we would end the year behind by nearly $2,000 which would be a pattern that would be unsustainable for the center. However, we are hopeful that this annual fundraising appeal will help us to pull a bit ahead of our expenses by mid-year.

Overall, we are extremely pleased to be offering a wide range of wonderful programs. Our recent visit by Geshe Sherab went well, and we're very much looking forward to the upcoming visit by Khensur Rinpoche in July. Ani Tendrol continues offering a range of classes and activities on Sundays and also doing lots of community outreach. Ven. Dondrub is tirelessly offering introductory level classes, leading pujas, holding visiting hours, guiding meditations, and meeting the needs of our members and friends. And, the Saturday classes on The Stages of the Path to Enlightenment (Lamrim) continue as well.

We hope that you'll express your love and compassion by helping the center at this time!

Three Ways You Can Help:

1. Contribute to our "Saka Dawa Building Fund Donation Drive". This month celebrates Saka Dawa—culminating on June 9th with the anniversary of Buddha Shakyamuni's birth, enlightenment and final nirvana. Good karma created at that time is said to increase in power by 100 million times. So, this is an excellent time to donate to our Building Fund to help with making our regular, monthly mortgage payments!

2. Become a center member or increase your monthly membership donation. Our website lists various levels of membership. By becoming a center member who contributes a regular amount each month (or annually if you prefer), your donations help us to keep the Guhyasamaja Center in existence.

3. Donate to help pay off the mortgage. If the mortgage were fully paid off, then our current level of income would easily be sufficient to sustain the center into the future. So, paying off the mortgage early would be one way of creating more financial stability for the center (thereby helping to insure that we can provide Dharma in the area on into the future.) Any donations ear marked towards mortgage payoff will be used for that purpose.

Your helping in any of these ways really will play an important role in keeping Guhyasamaja Center in existence, allowing it to continue offering the Dharma in the D.C. area!

In order to help in any of those three ways you can bring a check to any center event and place it in the donation basket, you can mail a check to our P.O. Box ( P.O. Box 1511 – Centreville, VA 20112), or you can donate online via our website using Paypal.

Whether you attend center events occasionally, participate regularly in classes, volunteer at the center, or find our on-line resources useful we'd like to thank you for your involvement with the center and for your help!
